A://RUN04Modern Work

Work that follows
the person.

Modern Work is the set of changes that let your staff do more, from anywhere, on a managed device, without the security posture depending on anyone being in the office. It is for organisations whose working patterns changed but whose technology assumptions did not.

Most workplaces still assume the office network is the security boundary and the office desk is where work happens. Neither has been true for years.

The cost of leaving this alone is rarely one visible failure. It is the slow accumulation: the workaround that became the process, the thing only one person knows, the renewal nobody questioned.

Our starting point is always the same: establish what is actually true today, then decide what to change. Work scoped against an assumption tends to solve a problem you do not have.

  • 01People work around the toolsPersonal file shares, private chats, and spreadsheets exist because the official way is slower.
  • 02Onboarding takes daysA new starter waits on a laptop, a login, and someone with time to explain where everything is.
  • 03Being productive means being in the officeThe files, the phone, or the process only really work from one location.

What the engagement covers

Scoped before it starts, so you know what is included and what is not.

  • 01

    Time back, measurably

The repetitive parts of a working week, approvals, handovers, status chasing, document hunting, cut down using tools you already pay for. We agree what we are measuring before we change anything.

  • 02

    Device management

Company and personal devices enrolled, configured, and kept compliant automatically, so a laptop is productive on day one and safe on day one thousand.

  • 03

    Identity as the boundary

Access decided by who someone is and what device they are on, rather than which network they happen to sit on.

  • 04

    Collaboration design

Where files live, where conversations happen, and who can reach them, decided deliberately rather than by whoever created the folder first.

Assess, deploy, operate, review

Four stages with a written output at each one. You always know which stage you are in and what comes next.

  1. 01Week 1

    Assess

We document what exists today and what it needs to do, so the work is scoped against reality rather than assumption.

  2. 02Weeks 2 – 4

    Deploy

Changes are made in a planned sequence, outside working hours where disruption would otherwise land on your staff.

  3. 03Ongoing

    Operate

It is monitored and maintained as part of your agreement. Problems are ours to notice, not yours to report.

  4. 04Quarterly

    Review

What it is costing, whether it still fits, and what should change before the next renewal.

What you should expect

  • Someone other than you owns it, with that written down.
  • The current state is documented and stays documented.
  • Cost is planned ahead rather than discovered at renewal.
  • Decisions are made against evidence rather than assumption.

Questions we get asked

01What is modern work?

Modern Work is the set of changes that let your staff do more, from anywhere, on a managed device, without the security posture depending on anyone being in the office. It is for organisations whose working patterns changed but whose technology assumptions did not.

02How does modern work actually make my team more productive?

By removing the small daily frictions that nobody logs a ticket about. A new starter working on day one rather than day four. Documents that can be found and co-edited instead of emailed back and forth in versions. Approvals that happen on a phone rather than waiting for someone to be at a desk. Individually these are minutes. Across a team over a year they are the reason the work gets done.

03What does modern work actually mean in plain terms?

It means your people can do their job properly from wherever they are, on a device you can trust, using tools that fit how the work happens. The technology behind it is device management, identity, and collaboration design, but the test is simpler than that: can a capable person start work on Monday without asking anyone where anything is.

04Is this just another word for letting everyone work from home?

No. Plenty of our clients want people in the office, and that is a perfectly reasonable position. The point is that the technology should not be the thing deciding it. If your systems only work from one building, the choice has been made for you.

05Will my staff need retraining, and will they resist it?

Some will, and resistance is usually well founded. The new process may genuinely be worse for their part of the job, and it is cheaper to find that out during design than after rollout. We involve the people doing the work early, keep the training short and specific to their role, and follow up once the novelty has worn off.

06Can staff use their own phones and laptops safely?

Yes, with the right controls. Personal devices can access work data through policies that protect the company data without giving us any visibility of the personal side. The alternative, which is what most businesses have today, is staff using personal devices anyway with no controls at all.

07How long does this take and does it stop the business while it happens?

It is staged deliberately so it does not. We usually start with identity and devices because everything else depends on them, then move to collaboration and process. Each stage reaches a point where it is genuinely finished and useful, so you can pause between them if the business needs the attention elsewhere.

08How much does modern work cost in New Zealand?

We quote after scoping rather than before. Anyone pricing this work without looking at your environment is guessing, and the guess is rarely in your favour. Scoping itself is quick, and we tell you what it costs before we start it.

09How long does it take to get started with modern work?

A first conversation takes about half an hour and costs nothing. Scoping is usually a week or two of our time depending on the size of the environment, and we agree the delivery dates with you before anything is booked in.

10Can you deliver modern work alongside our existing IT team or provider?

Yes, and it is common. We are happy to work as an extra pair of hands under your internal team, or alongside an incumbent provider on a defined piece of work. We will set out in writing where the responsibilities split, so nothing falls between us.

11Do we have to move all of our IT to Atlas to get this?

No. This can be delivered as a standalone piece of work for an organisation we have never worked with before, or folded into a managed agreement if you already have one with us. Plenty of clients use us for one thing and keep everything else where it is.

12Do you only work with Auckland businesses?

Our team is based in Auckland and we attend sites across the wider region. Most of this work is delivered remotely, so we support organisations throughout New Zealand, and we will say up front where being on site genuinely matters.

13Who will we actually be dealing with day to day?

Named people, not a queue. You get a lead who knows your environment and stays with it, which is the difference between explaining your business once and explaining it every time you make contact.

14What happens if we want to leave?

You keep the documentation regardless, and anything registered in your name stays in your name. Whether we stay involved is your call. Some clients take it in house from there, others move it onto an ongoing agreement with us. We would rather you left cleanly than stayed because leaving was difficult.

Start with a conversation.

Tell us what you are dealing with and we will tell you whether this is the right service for it, and what it would take.
