A://RUN01[AETERNUS] Managed IT
Your IT department,
without the department.
Managed IT services for New Zealand businesses that have outgrown ad-hoc support but do not want to hire an internal team. We run the day-to-day so your people can get on with their work.
THE PROBLEM
Most businesses do not have an IT problem. They have an IT ownership problem.
Someone ends up holding it. An office manager, a founder, or whoever is good with computers. It is never their actual job, so it gets done between other things, and only once something has already broken.
The cost is rarely a single outage. It is the slow accumulation: licences nobody cancelled, a backup nobody tested, onboarding that takes three days because there is no process, and a growing list of things only one person knows how to do.
- 01You are the IT person by accidentNobody hired you for this, but the password resets still land on your desk.
- 02Problems find you, not the other way roundYou hear about the outage from staff, not from a monitor that caught it first.
- 03Nobody can say what you actually haveNo current list of devices, licences, or who has access to what.
- 04Fixes do not stay fixedThe same issue comes back because the cause was never dealt with.
WHAT YOU GET
Three ways to run it
Same engineers, same tooling. The difference is how much of the load we carry and how far ahead we work.
BEST FORSmall organisations that want their machines looked after without a contract.
Proactive monitoring on every device, patching kept current, and a monthly report telling you the state of your fleet. Month to month, with no lock-in.
- Device monitoring, with proactive IT support
- Monthly health reports
- Software updates and patching
- Helpdesk support for your staff
- Security assessments and training
- Managed Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace
- 24/7 cyber monitoring
HOW WE WORK
Stabilise first. Improve second.
Every engagement runs the same four stages. You always know which one you are in and what comes next.
- 01Week 1
Assess
We document what you actually have: devices, licences, accounts, access, and the things only one person knows. You get the register whether or not you continue with us.
- 02Weeks 2 – 4
Stabilise
We clear the backlog and close the gaps that are actively costing you: unpatched machines, untested backups, accounts that should have been removed months ago.
- 03Months 2 – 3
Standardise
One build, one set of tools, one way to onboard someone. Standardisation is what turns a support relationship from reactive to predictable.
- 04Ongoing
Improve
Quarterly reviews against a roadmap you agreed to, so spend is planned rather than discovered. This is the part most providers never reach.
WHAT CHANGES
What it looks like six months in
- Every device is known, patched, and accounted for.
- New starters are productive on day one, not day three.
- Someone other than you owns the problem when it appears.
- Technology spend is planned a year out, not discovered at renewal.
FAQ
Questions we get asked
01What does managed IT actually mean?
You pay a predictable monthly fee and we take responsibility for the day-to-day running of your technology: the helpdesk your staff contact, monitoring and patching of every device, security tooling, and administration of your Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace tenancy. It replaces ringing someone once things have already broken.
02How much do managed IT services cost in New Zealand?
Ours start at $18 per device per month plus GST on Comet Flex, which covers monitoring, patching, and monthly reporting with no lock-in contract. Stellar and Polaris add helpdesk, security, and strategic services and are quoted per organisation, because the honest price depends on how many people you have, what you run, and what condition it is in. Anyone quoting a full managed service without looking at your environment is guessing.
03What is the difference between Comet Flex, Stellar, and Polaris?
Comet Flex looks after the machines: monitoring, patching, and a monthly report. Stellar adds the people, with a helpdesk your staff can call, security assessments and training, and your Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace properly administered. Polaris adds the security licensing and 24/7 monitoring, plus a named senior person owning your roadmap, budget, and vendors. Most organisations start at Stellar.
04What size business is this for?
Organisations that have outgrown ad-hoc support but are not large enough to justify a full internal IT team, which in practice is roughly five to two hundred staff. If IT currently lands on somebody whose job it is not, you are in the range. Comet Flex works from a handful of devices upward.
05Are we locked into a long contract?
Comet Flex is month to month with no lock-in. Stellar and Polaris carry a term, agreed up front and set out in writing before you sign. Ask us for the current term and notice period and we will send you the actual agreement rather than a summary of it.
06Is managed IT cheaper than hiring someone in house?
For most organisations under a hundred or so staff, yes, and the comparison is not really like for like. One internal person cannot cover leave, cannot be expert across networking, security, and cloud platforms simultaneously, and cannot watch anything overnight. The relevant comparison is a salary plus recruitment, tooling, licensing, and training against a monthly fee that includes all of it. Above a certain size, an internal team plus co-managed support is usually the better answer, and we will say so.
07How do we switch from our current IT provider?
We handle the transition, including collecting documentation, credentials, and licence ownership, and we do the assessment before anything moves so we know what we are inheriting. Most handovers are uneventful. Where an outgoing provider is uncooperative, which does happen, we work around them, and the assessment is what makes that possible.
08How quickly do you respond when something breaks?
Response targets are set in the agreement and vary by tier and by how badly the issue is hurting you, because a single password reset and an office that cannot trade are not the same problem. We will give you the actual targets in writing rather than a claim on a website. Comet Flex is monitoring and patching rather than a helpdesk, so if your staff need someone to call, that is Stellar.
09Do you support Mac as well as Windows?
Yes. Mixed fleets are normal and we manage both, along with mobile devices. Standardisation does not mean forcing everyone onto one platform. It means every platform is managed to the same standard.
10Do you come to our office or is everything done remotely?
Most work is done remotely because it is faster for you, and we attend site when the problem is physical or when being in the room is genuinely better. We are based in Auckland and cover the wider region, and we support organisations across New Zealand remotely.
11What is a vCIO?
A named senior person who owns your technology strategy rather than your tickets: the roadmap, the budget, the lifecycle planning, and the reporting your board sees. It is the part of an IT director role that a smaller organisation still needs but cannot justify hiring for. It is included in Polaris.
12What happens to our data if we leave?
It is yours and it leaves with you. Documentation, asset registers, and credentials are handed over, and licences registered in your name stay in your name. We would rather you left cleanly than stayed because leaving was difficult, and you should ask any provider this question before you sign rather than after.
Start with the assessment.
We document your environment and tell you what we would change and why. You keep the register regardless of whether you engage us.
